— CASTLES, CAVES, ATTRACTIONS —

Spiš castle

This is a must-see monument. Not only it is one of the largest castles in the Central Europe but also it has been listed in the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage.

The journey there takes only half an hour from the Tatras. Surrounding hills are ideal for a small picnic and make sure you don't forget to take a camera!

Spišská Nová Ves - ZOO

It is the youngest and smallest among all the ZOO´s in Slovakia, nevertheless it is very beautiful.

There are approximately 250 animals and 70 species, some stalls with refreshments, ice-cream and souvenirs, two playgrounds for children and other attractions.

Though it is not a whole-day trip, it is a nice change from the mountain holidays and guarantees success among the children. It is very nice to combine this day-out with a stop e.g. in the Slovak Paradise or at the Spiš Castle (see above).

Historical trains

Every weekend during the summer holidays, historic trams run through the Tatras and you can take a ride on them. The ride is an experience itself. For example, the 100-year-old Comet does not even have a glass in the windows, so new hairstyle is included in the ticket-price  :)

BELIANSKA CAVE

Tatranská Kotlina

The only cave in the High Tatra mountains accessible for public and definitely worth visiting. No wonder it belongs among the most visited show caves in Slovakia. Except for bizarre rocky shapes, it is known by rich occurrence of calcite fills.

The tour lasts about an hour and it is possible to see bats there.. The temperature in the cave is only some 5 - 6 ° C and you need to overcome almost 900 steps so do not worry you would get cold :)

Private farm-zoo

By the Hotel Hubert (Gerlachov) there is a small zoo - Tatra Zveropark - with several types of domestic animals. Thanks to the friendly environment and beautiful nature, the park is a popular place for families with children.

The pets are cared for by an experienced nurse with his team of helpers. When you visit the pet shop, you can feed the animals from the installed vending machines, or take a horse or pony ride.

BEAR - WATCHING

Our friend Erik has been accompanying curious tourists near bear dwellings for years and he certainly knows all Tatra bears by name. Undoubtedly they know him too. He can introduce you to them too if you want. He will take you to places where they roam, of course, in all "abundance" from a safe distance. Are you going?

From May to October, bears are observed either individually or in groups of 2-8 people. (the more you are, the better the price :). The "trip" is not suitable for small children, as the climb takes several hours.

If you are interested, let us know, we will be happy to arrange contact with Erik for you.
